5 more years with Heath

The Steelers have signed Heath Miller to a 5 year extension (he had 1 year left on his current contract). The deal will reportedly pay him a $12.5M signing bonus with a total of around $35M over the next 6 years. The 26 year old tight end has had quite a career so far. He has won two Super Bowl rings in his first 4 years in the NFL! The 6-foot-5, 256-pound Miller has 168 catches for 1,932 yards, an average of 11.5 yards per catch, with 21 touchdowns during his career. He also has three touchdown catches in the playoff games.

Heath is just one of those guys who gets it done. He’s great in clutch situations. The Steelers showed their commitment to him by penning a five year deal in spite of the fact that there may not be a cap in place for 2010. If a new NFL labor agreement isn’t hammered out the caps may go out the window until a new one is in place. If the cap isn’t in place for 2010 the Steelers could have offered Miller a tender offer to keep him. Instead they opted to show their confidence in one of the league’s finest tight ends. Way to go Steelers. And Heath, let’s make it three rings in your first 5 seasons.
