Legal trouble for Ben

With only 10 days until training camp opens, news has broken that Big Ben is the subject of a sexual assault lawsuit. The suit, filed in Reno, Nevada alleges that Ben lured a hotel employee to his suite where he blocked her egress and sexually assaulted her.

While it’s too early to dismiss her charges, I must say that when I look at the facts we know, there are some curious points.

Why did the woman wait over a year to file the suit? Why are there no criminal charges or investigations? Why would the eight others being sued be conspiring with Ben on this?

I have a hard time believing the charges. Ben is a very public figure in Western PA. He doesn’t hide out at home. I think it’s fair to say Ben is no angel. I’ve heard the stories of him being intoxicated but have never heard any tales that he’s a cad or that he mistreats anyone. In fact, I heard that he is just always a very nice guy. Normally those things get around about a public figure in a small town city like the Burgh.

Before we judge Roethlisburger on this, let’s not forget that wasn’t long ago that Jerome Bettis faced very similar accusations. Those charges were proven to be a plan hatched by a brother and sister to score a big settlement. Instead they scored jail time.

As a fan, I want to believe the best and will do so until convinced otherwise by some evidence.
