Michael Vick Rumors
First there are the reported Vick sightings in the Burgh in early August. Again Tomlin refused to deny the visit.
Then there’s the Tony Dungy connection. Dungy is acting a a representative or advocate on Vick’s behalf. As we all know Dungy started his career as player under Chuck Noll then as assistant coach under Noll and Cowher. Later, Tony worked with Mike Tomlin in Tampa Bay. Not to mention the fact that both Vick and Tomlin are from Newport News, VA. A very intriguing set of facts.
Aside from this six degrees of seperation web, what else makes this a good fit for the Stillers? Well, Ben is an established, winning QB who would presumably not be threatened by Vick’s presence. The Steelers organization is one of the most stable organizations in the league. Their front office and ownership are beyond reproach. From a rehabilitation point of view, Vick would be hard pressed to find a better place to land. Going to Dallas or Baltimore would just keep the ‘bad boy’ albatross hanging around his neck. As a solid member of the Steelers organization he may be able to salvage a future as an advertising spokesperson or maybe television commentator. He needs to do some good clean time to rehab his image.
Now, to the question of bringing Vick back to the NFL. As a dog owner and lover this was tough. There is no question that his actions were deplorable. Horrible. But he has done his time. That’s more than Donte Stallworth can say. A DUI death with only 24 days in jail is a travesty. But that’s for another place and time.
What about Dennis Dixon?
