It’s ‘Pall a mall oo’ – Troys Back!

August 3, 2010 in Uncategorized

palamalu_fliesReports from camp say Troy Polamalu is practicing at full pace. Troy says he spent the off season strengthening the leg that sat him down for 11 games last season. Troy’s value just can’t be overstated. His huge plays are invaluable but his on field energy seems to be contagious. Everyone just seems to play with more energy and enthusiasm when he’s out there. Maybe he makes everyone else feel inferior or maybe it’s an electricity. Some media outlets, namely the Post-Gazette, have reported that Troy alluded to not yet being 100%. We can only hope that’s not true.

Stan and Guy

April 1, 2010 in Uncategorized

As a transplanted Pittsburgher I was happy to hear that ESPN radio 1250 is expanding the Stan and Guy to 4 hours! I depend on those guys to stay connected when I can’t be “home”.

The internet simulcast makes me feel at home. Thanks ESPN on behalf of Pittsburghers all around the world.

Yinz Ready for Some Football?

Get you tees now!

Get you tees now!

We’re a matter of hours from the event Steelers fans have waited for since the Super Bowl victory parade ended.  Look for some goosebumps tonight.  The Trib says NBC and the NFL have been working for five months on this season opener.  After free concerts by the Black Eyed Peas and Tm McGraw the announcer will begin the televised event with something like, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, let’s welcome America to the home of the six time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers!’  Followed by a huge fireworks display from a barge on the river as well as from various points throughout the downtown area.  Should be quite a specticle.

As for the really important part of the evening, the game.  Although a lot is being made of the towel stomping by the Titans I think that’s more of a factor for fans than the players.  The players should be charged sufficiently without the towel stomp.  The mistake the Titans are making is making an already difficult situation worse.  The home crowd at Heinz Field is hard to deal with for any opponent coming into the Steelers house.  Make them angry and give them a reason to hate you and you’ve made a mistake.  Look for the crowd to provide a most valuable player performance tonight.

I think the electricity will carry the Stillers to an unexpectedly easy victory tonight.  The Joystick (Logan) will return one for a TD and Troy Polamalu will play a huge role in this one.

Roster Cuts

September 5, 2009 in Steelers, Uncategorized

Redman cut by SteelersUPDATE: Isaac Redman cleared waivers and was signed by the Steelers to their eight man practice squad.Anyone who has read my recent posts knows that I have been high on Isaac Redman. I was buoyed by his performance on Thursday against the Panthers. Surely they wouldn’t cut their leading pre-season scorer. Three pre-season touchdowns is an accomplishment for an undrafted rookie from Bowie State. Vic Redman was on his way to becoming Bowie State’s first NFL player. UPDATE: Some outlets reported he would be Bowie’s first NFL player while some say he’d be their third.

Then came the news. The Steelers were not keeping him. I’m sure they’d like to keep him for the practice roster but he has to clear waivers first. Fat chance. Redman will surely be scooped up before the practice roster is set.

This was the only cut that left me disappointed. I think he could have been a huge asset in the redzone. Of course when you have that much talent to choose from, someone will always disagree with managemnt’s choices. I just hope we don’t live to regret cutting Redman. These things sometimes have a way of coming back to haunt you.
