goodbye santonio … HELLO ANTONIO!

Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown

The Steelers have some serious speed at wide receiver. Antonio Brown’s 68 yard TD return in the game against Detroit was at rocket speed. Brown, Wallace and Sanders should prove to provide fun for Steeler quarterbacks this year (whoever that might be).

In other news, Big Ben got no time in first pre season game. Art Rooney mentioned, in a sideline interview on KDKA that he should get some time in week two in New York. Gotta believe they wanted to spare him a possible home town boo fest. A few good plays out of town might soften the crowd reaction in Pittsburgh.

Dick LaBeau – One More Look

Hall of Famer Dick LaBeau

Hall of Famer Dick LaBeau

We have always known Dick LaBeau is a class act. Before joining the Steelers organization, the 50+ year NFL veteran spent 14 years as a Detroit Lion. He obviously left an impression on the Motor City. While scouring the Detroit Free Press for news about this week’s game against the Lions, I stumbled upon a great article that chronicled LaBeau’s Hall of Fame weekend. It’s a very good article. Check it out by clicking here!.

Less Than Four?

Ben Waits

Ben Waits

The Post-Gazette is reporting that Commissioner Goodell left the door open to a reduction of Ben’s suspension below the four game minimum that was originally announced. I just find that hard to believe. No matter how far ‘above and beyond’ Ben has gone with his redemption I just can’t imagine less than 4 games. The only way I can imagine that happening is if something has surfaced to minimize the credibility of the charges made in Georgia. Of course, the Steelers fan in me wants it to be less than four games but in the interest of doing the right thing, it seems that he should at least serve the minimum suspension. Continued…

Ben’s Judgement Day

Drunk Ben

Drunk Ben

With NFL Commish scheduled to visit Steelers training camp tomorrow (Thursday August 5th) the smart money is saying Ben’s suspension will be reduced to the lesser 4 games rather than the possible 6. Ben has laid low and presumably done the things the NFL dictated as his path to redemption in the league. These things are a virtual sure thing. The big question is, ‘Has Ben learned a lesson?’ Will there be another embarrassing escapade down the road? None of us can possibly know that. Only Ben, knows how he really feels and I’d venture a guess that he could honestly say it won’t happen again. We have all, however, seen people backslide. It’s relatively easy to do the right thing when the world and your boss are watching your every move. It could be slightly more difficult when those prying eyes are gone. One thing we can bank on, is that with his history, Ben will always have someone secretly watching him for a slip up. He needs to be on best behavior. This age of cell phone cameras and Twitter mean that his slip ups will be documented and flashed across the media in an instant. Gone are the days of Joe Namith and the willingness to turn a blind eye to our hero being a cad (or worse).

It’s ‘Pall a mall oo’ – Troys Back!

palamalu_fliesReports from camp say Troy Polamalu is practicing at full pace. Troy says he spent the off season strengthening the leg that sat him down for 11 games last season. Troy’s value just can’t be overstated. His huge plays are invaluable but his on field energy seems to be contagious. Everyone just seems to play with more energy and enthusiasm when he’s out there. Maybe he makes everyone else feel inferior or maybe it’s an electricity. Some media outlets, namely the Post-Gazette, have reported that Troy alluded to not yet being 100%. We can only hope that’s not true.
